About John Angelo:
John Angelo is a 44 year old man with Down syndrome who has been a pioneer in the community, developing his abilities and setting the bar for others with Down syndrome with his impressive accomplishments. Among his achievements, John has worked at Gatti Pharmacy for 23 years, done public speaking engagements, won a gold metal in the Special Olympics Alternate Shot golf tournament with his father and has served on the board for The Arc of Indiana County and Pennsylvania. John's spirit is contagious to everyone he meets.

PHOENIX Charity Golf Classic History:
The PHOENIX Charity Golf Classic began in 2009 in support of the Indiana County Humane Society and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In it's seven years running, the classic raised over $64,000.  With the support of our sponsors and golfers, a difference was made in the lives of many children and pets. In 2014, a Get Acquainted room at the new Indiana County Humane Society location was dedicated in honor the classic's co-founder, Steven Brody.

About The Arc and it's Foundation:
The Arc of Indiana County was founded in 1973.  John's parents, Joe and Shirley Angelo were among the founding members.  The Arc is a strong advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Arc assists families by:

1.  Providing information and resources about special education, transition to work, community services and much more.

2.  Assisting in getting answers to questions and concerns regarding the rights of all people with disabilities.

3.  Helping parents to prepare for meetings with teachers and school administrators and with community service coordinators or providers.

4.  Keeping persons with intellectual challenges informed as to their rights as citizens of Pennsylvania and of the United States of America and advocating for rights they have been denied.

The Foundation for The Arc was founded in 2004 as a repository of fund to insure the financial stability of The Arc.  For the past two years, the Foundation's John Angelo Golf Classic raised over $23,000.
